Inspirational sign

A wise man inspired me to better myself. In the coming new year I plan to do all of the following... just read the sign.

I cut all the words using DS and my cricut. I cut the words out in vinyl and use painters tape to transfer the images. Wasn't happy with how it looked. Way to reflective. Grabbed a can of spray paint and applied a thin layer. Make sure you let the paint dry over night before removing the letters. You might pull up some of the paint as I did.

cho cho train photos

This is my family train!
Discovered this idea while surfing the web. I used my community to cut the train from at 6". I cut 1 of each in black out using solid paper. Then cut an other set using pattern paper. Finally punched holes for the lights on top.

This is sized for wallets. Al tho you could re-adjust to use 4 x6 if you so choose to.

Star tree

Start Joy of the season cart. I used the 6 pointed star to form the tree. Cut 1 set of stars in sizes: 1", 2", 3" and so on up to 7". Cut one set in pattern paper and one set in a coordinating solid color. Now cut sets of star in sizes: 2", 3", 4" and so on up to 8". These layers I cut in white.

Score the stars at all the points so you have peaks and valleys. Begin to glue the layers together. 1" pattern on 2" white. Continue till all done. Using hot glue to adhere together.
Mine were done using 1 set of stars.

A new wreath

Very simple but time consuming to make this new type of wreath.

You will need:
17 pieces of pattern paper cut at 6 x 6
17 pieces of pattern paper cut at 4 x 6
Wrap them into a tube. I used my bottle of glue to form the tube. Regular glue works to hole the tubes but I recommend hot glue to put it all together.

The words were cut from winter woodland at 8" on black out. I also cut an out line at 7"

Christmas album for mom

This year I made an album for my mom. The overall size measures 6 x 8. Pocket pages allows for a 4 x 6 photo. The blank pages I planned for a 5 x 7

To make the pockets: Start with a piece of paper 6 x 12. Score at 8 inches and fold up. Using an edge punch to make a decorative edge. Some pages were folded up and some were folded down.

All the dolls were made from the paper doll cartridge. All cut at 4 inches.

Finally I used my cinch to bind the book together using a 1 1/4 rings.

Fall wreath

I used a straw wreath to attach the rosettes to. This made the wreath more stable and durable.

Bump in the night

For those who are afraid of the dark! This is a cute little box with a spray bottle full of monster be gone (shh it's just water with food coloring and glitter).

Directions: when you hear or see something scary just bring out the monster be gone and spray away. Poof no more monsters.

The monsters were cut from mini monster cart and lots of hand trimming for the paper.

Instructions: Trim a piece of paper to 9.25 wide and 6 high. This will be the ‘door’. Score at 3.5 and 5.5 Fold on score lines. The side that is 3.75″ wide will be the front.

Trim TWO pieces of paper to 10 wide and 4.50 high. Score at .5 and 2.5. You will score one side and then rotate to score at .5 and 6.5. Cut the small score line at 6.5 only to the .5 score line. Remove 2 pieces on the .5 by 4.5 side to form a tab.

Fold in half so the tab is to the right. Fold out the .5 tabs these will be the binder for the walls.

Adhere the .50″ ‘tabs’ between the folded layers to form the walls of the box. Do this with both pieces to make a box.

Adhere to the ‘door’ part of the box. make sure it’s adhered to the 3.50″ side and NOT the 3.75″ side.

Trim a piece of paper to 3.50″ wide and 5.25″ high. Trace your 1.50″ diameter spray bottle in the center and remove with a craft knife to create a hole. For some reason my original size didn't fit. Just made a small box for this.

Boo to you sign

An other scrap lifted idea. I cut out BOO with my circut. I think it was happy haunting or mini monsters. I cut 5 pieces of patterned paper and chip board. I think the dimensions are 3.5 x 5.5. It really doesn't matter the exact size just cut letters to your preferred size. My letters are cut at 3 inches. I used my cinch to bind the pieces together.
Once I was done it needed a little bling. Stickles to the rescue!

Lighted witches broom. I found this idea on line while searching for pumpkin pvc people.

You will need a traditional broom stick(s), 175 strand of lights, 20 strand of lights and spray paint. I found my broom sticks from Walmart for about $2 bucks each. Start by cutting apart the red string on the actual bristle end. Spread the bristles apart and spray paint with purple or orange paint. The tedious part is to wrap the lights around the stick. Be patience and take your time. It is well worth it.
The only thing left to do is add the smaller strand of lights in the bristles.

Halloween wreath

Welcome to my new obsession. I discovered paper doilies.
I used 4 sheets of 12 x 12 Halloween paper from Micheal's.

Cut strips ranging from 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 inches. You will need 2 strips of each size to make 1 doily.

Once you have cut all the sizes you want get your score board out. Score each piece at every .5 inches. Then according fold the pieces. Use a little glue to secure the ends together.

Now for the fun part. Stand the paper circle on it's side and force the edges into the center. Magic it becomes a doily. Now punch a small circle for each one. I used the circles to adhere the doilies to.

Make a circle as large as you would like the wreath to be. I used the back of the paper package.

I added a few ghosts from mini monster and placed a crown on their heads. A few gem stones and ribbon to finish it off. Hope you like it!

Boo lighted pumpkin

An other lighted pumpkin. I used the same process as I did for the large lighted pumpkin.

I cut the letters out on my cricut and taped them on. Using the drill to make holes along the letters. For added accents I did 3 rows around the pumpkin.

I think it turned out great. Except for the one light I can't get to work. Oh well!

Lighted Pumpkin

There are 175 lights inside this pumpkin. And may I add this is a PITA to make! I used a drill to make all the holes. Finger pressure to force the bulbs into the holes. I would suggest you plug in the light set as you are pushing the bulbs in. I did not do that and ended up going back to the bulbs that wouldn't light. In my case it was just loss bulbs. Thank goodness!

Spider's web

Scrap lifted this from the Martha Stewart page.

Using a small foam pumpkin from Micheal's. I used tinsel ribbon to create the web. Sized a plastic spider and glued on top. This was very simple and easy to create.

Firefly jar

While on my way home from Fargo I discovered a craft store. It was "the" craft store. Am tempted to move to St Cloud MN just to be close to the store. Till them on line will have to do!

Crafter's Direct had a display of firefly jars. I thought I can do that. I purchased the plain mason jar and headed home. Lots of thoughts running in my mind all the way!

I used battery operated lights from hobby lobby. They have a flash setting (which is what I needed for this project). Some raffay covered wire, moss and a few flowers and I was set. The rest is history as I don't remember how I did it. I just had a lot of fun and so many memories of the great store.

This is a wedding present for a friend. I hope she doesn't see this post before tomorrow!

Wedding Fan

Part of our pyro crew is getting married tomorrow! The blushing bride asked if I could make her wedding fans with a prayer on one side and the wedding party on the other. What kind of friend would I be to turn her down 24 hours before the wedding. My mom and I made 70 fans in 9 hours. That was an undertaking I will not do again in that short of time. Well worth it once we were done but not the added stress.

Paper line is DCWV La Creme Stack 8 x 8 with coordinating 4.5 x 6.25 paper. Martha Stewart was the corner punch I used, but do not know the name of it. All the words were done in microsoft word and trimmed to size.

I hope she likes them and this gives you ideas!

My new dog "Buddie"

This is Buddies story:
Buddie has lived his whole life with Paula. About 2 years ago Paula was diagnosed with lung cancer. Through the year and a half of chemo Paula was undergoing, we let Buddie out every Monday. After all that is what neighbors do for each other. Help out when needed.

December we were given bad news that Paula has about 6 months to live. In April Paula had a few episodes of unresponsiveness. This scared her to be alone in the house. We did what we could for a couple days to be with her but, she and Buddie decided it was time to move about a hour away to live with her sister.

Paula lived for an other month. As she passed away with Buddie by her side she was at peace. In a nut shell that was Buddie's life. Simple and loving. Now is when the adventure begins.

3 days ago a women knocked on Paula's door. I asked if I could help. Janet was looking for Paula. I told her the situation. She sighed and explained she found Buddie. He was walking in the rain on hwy 32 (near Shawano). She followed him for a 1/4 of a mile before Buddie got into her car. Buddie ended up at the humane society in Shawano.

It took Janet 3 weeks to track down Paula's house. Upon more discussion with her it sounds like Buddie was lost or abandoned for 3 weeks prior. He was found on June 19th. He had been in the shelter a month before I got to him. See Buddie was supposed to have been adopted to an elderly woman with a 17 year old son on a farm. The sister figured he was 20 miles from where he was supposed to be. Poor little boy!

Buddie is an eleven year old collie/german shepard mix. The sweetest and kindest dog. We are very lucky and fortunate to have him in our house. We will see how he does with living next door to his old house. So far he is ok and seems very happy.

Easter baskets

Aren't they cute? Love these baskets.

Using a 12 x 12 paper, score at 3 and 9. Rotate paper and score at 4.5 and 7.5. Assemble the box by cutting the bottom flaps and glue well. I used several boarder punches for the edges to make them a bit more fun. Finish off with pattern paper.

For the bunny: using stamp up punches, punch 1 -1 3/4 circle and scallop. 4 - med ovals, 2 - small ovals, 2 - 1/2 circles, 6 - hole punches dots, 1 - med heart and 1 - small heart. I think you can figure out how to assemble the bunny from the photo. I you get stuck just email me. Enjoy

wedding save the date cards

I received an order for 36 of these save the date cards for a friend. They are having a simple/elegant wedding and wanted cards to reflect their love of nature.

I ordered the leafy tree embossing folder from Great Britain. As it is not available in the US at this time. Using chalks to color the tree and leaves.

I created a pocket for the inside to put the hotel information. I used a Martha Stewart punch for the boarder of the pocket. Also used chalk to color the flowers for a bit more bling. I found a word template to create the wording on the right.

The best part of this whole project came at the end when she arrived to pick them up. She asked how much and I simply replied Happy Wedding! I hope this helps her save some money and is a great present to give them.

Captured Fairy - Matilda

I put her in a small jar with a bit of fake spider's web since she was used to a small area. I added a few flowers to make her smile.

Chocolate covered treats

This year I made chocolate covered Oreos for a few sick/shut people in the neighborhood. Everyone needs a little something on a holiday. I used regular chocolate oreos and the reverse ones. With vanilla cookie and chocolate filling. Yummy!

Dip them in candy chocolate and allow to dry for an hour. Package them up in an adorable hand made cookie box and deliver.

Oh so much fun!

Captured Fairy - Malinda

Feb. 14, 2011 Malinda was found under a blue mushroom in the forest.

Isn't she cute? This is a new fad going around on the message boards. Like everyone I had to give it a try.

It is very fun and exciting to see how these come together. The hardest thing was finding the vintage photos.

Step 1: Print out a vintage photo and cut it out. My photo was black and white. I colored it with chalk in pastel colors. Step 2: I used velum and a butterfly stamp for the wings. Added bling with stickles. Step 3: add moss or something similar to the bottom. Step 4: add twigs or branches for your fairy to be adhered to. I used a few leaves from my fake tree in the house. Also add a few flowers is you like. Step 5: Put her in the jar. I used a wide mouth mason jar so it was easy to put her in. Step 6: Decorate the back and top.

Simple as that. I hope this has sparked your imagination to create a fairy. Malinda now lives in my mom's house!

Calendar box

This project was inspired by Kathy at Paper Phenomenon.

I changed it a bit to make it my own style. I purchased a paper box from Hobby Lobby. Mainly cuz my box would not go together correctly. Not sure what I did wrong.

I printed the months out on my printer using excel on velum. I attached them with brads on each month's colors. That way I can change the velum sheets for next year. Smart wasn't I?

Hot sticky messness

A challenge was given to use during a ustream class last night with Kathy. We were to make a hot sticky mess and show it off.

What is a hot sticky mess you ask? Surprisingly it has nothing to do with ribbons. It has to do with hot glue and the mess you get if you are not paying attention to what you are doing. The ribbons is our idea of a hot sticky messness.

Simple to make: Take a hair bow and go crazy tie ribbons around it. The more the merry! I hope to see some of your creations soon.

Gingerbread house

I am having problems finding the exact pieces I am looking for so hopefully by next Christmas I will finish it. In case you are wondering I am looking for a sitting chair, small ottoman, fireplace and small picture frames. Just found small presents for under the tree. I will post pictures once I finish it.

Shoe box donation 2010

The last 3 years we have donated a shoe box full of goodies for the local homeless shelter's.
My church arranges for all the deliveries and sorting. I simply need to pick a group and purchase items for that age and wrap it all up in a shoe box. Drop them off at my church and that is it. Such a simple way to give back to our community. This year I choose a little girl and little boy. I hope this inspires you to give as you can this year. You can always volunteer your time.

Advent Calendar

This project was inspired by Kathy from paper phenomenon. Surprisingly I didn't use my cricut on this project! I know is that possible...why yes it is.

Everything is made from card stock and hot glue. With the exception of the 3 trees and small figure. I stole them from my Christmas village set. Used a stickles to make the ornament dots on the trees.

The boxes are filled with 2 Hersey kisses in each box. That way I don't have to fight Chris for chocolate. I also only put 24 boxes as my family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve. I hope Kathy and I inspired you!

I am sure many of you have seen this before. I just get a kick out of doing this each year. I used mini marshmallows dehydrated. Cut the snowman from doodlecharm at 2.5. The snow hills are a circle punch cut to size.

Magic Reindeer Food

This is the best gift to encourage a child's imagination you old and young at heart. Sprinkle this special mix on the ground in front of your house and Santa's reindeer will be drawn to it. Making the arrival of your gifts faster.

Mix 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup colored sugar or eatable glitter. Don't use real glitter if you are going to sprinkle outside. Will harm the animals. Mix well and place 1/2 cup in a bag. Add poem and your done.

Simple and fun to share with little kids.

Snowman Soup

Just love this simple little project. I think the picture tells it all but here is what yo do.
In a bag place 1 package of cocoa mix with marshmallows, mini candy cane and a hersey's kiss. Attach the poem and you are off!

This is a great gift for kids to give to their teacher or a friend.

Veteran's day gift

I was given a challenge to do something nice for a veteran or someone who sacrificed a lot for his country. One person came to mind! I tried to get a photo of that person for all most a month. I was unsuccessful. So I had to send the gift unfinished. I have never done that before but since I know the person will be touched, it's not that bad. I will finish it with a few more crystals around the photo and a saying once I figure out how much room is left.

Everything was purchased from HL. The background paper is two separate sheets cut to size. Roughly 8 x 8. Using glue dots to adhere to the outside back of the block. The inside was a bit tricky. I typed the unit in word and printed. Using a large star punch to create the star. Glue dot to secure inside the block. I used a long pair of tongs from the grill to get it to the top of the block. Three smaller stars punched with a small star punch and wrote on. Also attached with glue dots. To cover the access piece of plastic I covered it with ribbon. No glue needed as it is a tight fit. Finally to finish off the block I wrapped ribbon all the way around and create the topper.

Front door make over

In July I received a massive amount of hail damage. (1 3/4 diameter hail) Enough to get a new roof and new siding. Couldn't stand the thought of putting holes in the new siding for our address sign. Made sense to just put the numbers on the door. Perfect spot with lots of room!

Everything is cut with vinyl and my cricut. Using ds to custom size the parts. The numbers are about 7 inches, welcome is about 1.5 x 12 inches and the tree is 11 x 9 or there abouts. The word and letters are from Songbird and the tree is from Happy Hauntings.

I must say this was a PITA. Wonder if Kathy my PITA queen's ears were ringing today. Never try to stick vinyl at 48 degrees on cold metal. UGH is all I have to say!

Challenge - Something winter related

Robyn The Pink Stamper posted a challenge for this weekend to create something winter related. This is the first challenge I have done. Since I was not feeling so well I thought why not start to make my Christmas village. This is going to be the community center.

Was cut at 7 inches on the 12 x 24 mat. I didn't put the inside piece in as I wanted the windows to glow after I put on the velum. I used stickles to make the house look like it had lights hung. Think it turned out cute.

Get Well gifts

Made a great little gift set for a sick friend of mine. Found the idea on the message boards. Since I had no sizes to go by I just winged it. All in all I think they are super cute!

I used tags, bags and more for the tag and box. DS to help adjust the size of each to maximize paper use.

The bag has Kleenex, hand sanitizer, 10 cough drops inside. Just the essentials when you are sick. The tag is covering a box of chicken noodle soup. Starve the cold feed to fever or something like that.

Wedding favor boxes

My nut's (boyfriend) mom is getting married a 2nd time next weekend. I wanted to make a special box for their head table. This is what I came up with.

I used Tie the Knot cart. These are cut at 8 inches. The boxes are a bit hard to put together but after a few trial runs I got the hang of them. The base color is a light blue with a piece of velum over lay. The brides box has pearls and a gem stone on the front. The grooms box were brads for the buttons. T-shirt was also the same blue with the same velum over lay. A small piece of velum for the pocket and your done. I am trying to find small buttons for the front of the coat. So far no luck.

The Scrapbooking Queen's challenge

Cricut Card Fairy Army Mission 671

This mission is for a gentleman turning 30.

"He has spinal bifida and is currently living in a personal care home. He loves getting mail and I thought this would really just make his birthday amazing if he could be flooded with cards!"

This card was made during a local stamp camp. Loved learning the new technics with sponging.

This mission is about a youths gymnastics coach who was involved in a car accident.

"Coach Courtnee and her boyfriend were traveling home when an 87 yr old man with Alzheimer's was driving down the wrong side of the road and hit Coach Courtnee's car head on. Although her boyfriend survived with minor injuries, Coach Courtnee suffered a compound fracture in her arm and leg, had to have her spleen removed as well as part of her intestine. Courtnee is a wonderful, young girl(early 20's) who will have a long, hard fight in front of her."

I made this card in hopes it will raise her spirits.

Cupcake tea lights

Take a battery operated tea light. Make sure it works first! Cut a strip of paper 0.75 x 5 inches. This will go around the bottom of the light. Using a stampin up scallop punch for the top.

Assemble is easy attach the strip to the side with glue or atg tape. I added a ribbon around as well. Punch a seperate scallop and fold it in half, then in half again. This will give you a center mark. Clip a small cut off the folded piece. This will allow you to mark the centers better. Now cut slits in the scallop piece in the center over your mark. I did an * shape. Doesn't have to be long about a quarter of an inch. Push on top and glue down. Add bling and your done.

Paper pumpkins

Found this while on the message board. I am so happy with how cute these turned out. They were cut using my expression and plaintin schoolbook. Use the oval cut and set the machine to 3.5 in size. Press the auto fill button. This will give you 12 pumpkins.

I embossed them with my cuddle bug using swiss dots and a leaf pattern (can't remember the name). Fold the ovals in half and glue them together. Used a real twig from my backyard and inserted in the top. That's it and they are so darn cute!

Hanging 3-D pumpkin

This is new for me this year. I am still on the fence if I like it or not. Here is how to create it. It's a little challenging at first.
Cut strips:
6 inches x 1
7 inches x 2
9 inches x 2
11 inches x 2
Punch holes in both ends of the strips. I used brads to secure. Start with all the strips on one end with a brad. Now using a second brad bend the paper to form the pumpkin. Add a few fake leaves and ribbon for the stem.

3-D pumpkins

I am obsessed with these pumpkins. Very simple and fast to make.
Paper dimensions:
X-Large size 16 - 1.5 x 12
Large size 11 - 2 x 11
Medium size 10 - 1.5 x 8.5
Small size 8 - 1 x 4.75
X-Small size 7 - 1 x 4.25
Use a crock a dile to punch the holes. One at each end centered. Place a brad on one end to secure the pieces. Take a 2nd brad and place it in the hole of one strip. Now add the remaining strips to form the pumpkin. You will have to adjust the strips when you are done. Add a few fake leaves and a ribbon for the stem and your done.

Speed up Design Studio Load Time

I came across this set of instructions while on a message board. I am sorry I don't remember who or where but many thanks to that person for great advice!

As more and more carts are added to DS the time it takes to load increases. Here’s a way to speed up the loading time.

Are there lots of carts that you don’t own, and think that you’ll never own? If so, you can remove them from DS. This means that DS doesn’t have to load them at start up.

Note: You won’t be actually deleting the carts permanently, but moving them to a different directory on your computer. That way, if you do buy one of those carts (or want to be able to see it in DS) you’ll be able to move it back into the Fonts directory and it will show up again.

And don’t worry – if you completely muck this up you can just uninstall DS and reinstall it again and all will be well!

Here’s how you do it:

Make sure DS is closed

Open up Windows Explorer.

Click on C drive

Program files

Cricut software.

Select Tools, Folder Options, then the View tab.

Make sure "show hidden files, folders and drives" is selected then click Apply, then OK to close that box.

Navigate to: C: --> Program Files --> Cricut Software --> Cricut Designstudio --> Cricut Fonts

You should see these 5 folders:

Now we need to create a backup folder where we’ll copy all the fonts. This backup folder must not be inside the existing Cricut Fonts folder. We need to go back up one directory.

Create a new folder. Overtype “New folder” with Backup Fonts (or whatever name you choose)

Next we’re going to COPY all the contents from the 5 fonts folders into the Backup fonts folder.

Click on the Cricut Fonts folder
Copy all files and paste into back up folder

So now you have your backups created. Next you need to delete the fonts you don’t use from the original Fonts folders.

Navigate back to the original Cricut Fonts folder and open the CricutFontsA-C folder

You’ll see all the carts from that folder.

Hold down the Ctrl key and hover your cursor over a cart you want to delete until it’s selected.
Keep holding down the Ctrl key down and continue to select the carts you want to delete. (Older versions of Windows may require you to Ctrl + click to select.)

If you accidently select a cart, just move you cursor away from that cart, then hover over it again and it will be unselected.

(You can also just delete the carts one by one if you find that easier.)

Once you’ve selected all the carts you don’t want DS to load, press the delete key.

Repeat the above steps for the 4 remaining Fonts folders, deleting any carts that you don’t want DS to load.

Now go start DS and see how much faster it loads!

Adding carts back in

The time will most likely come where you will purchase a new cart and want to be able to see and use it in DS. Here’s how to add carts back in.

Close DS
Navigate to: C: -->Program Files --> Cricut Software --> Cricut Designstudio --> Backup Fonts
Then open the folder that contains the cart/s that you want to add back into DS and highlight them.(Again, use the Ctrl key if there’s more than one).

Once you have highlighted COPY your cart/s by selecting Ctrl C (or Edit, Copy). They’ll be copied to the clipboard.
Navigate to the original corresponding Font folder and select Ctrl V (or Edit, Paste).

Click Continue at the inevitable message box:

Your carts will now reappear in the correct Fonts folder (assuming you selected the right one).

Open DS and those carts will now show up again.

Remember, if you totally muck it up you still have your backup files plus if necessary you can uninstall DS and reinstall it.

A good friend turned 50 about a month ago. Decided she needed some suckers. Everything was cut in DS. Use a bag of 600 suckers on a square green block. I made a similar one for my brother on his 40th.

Crayon Wreath

I entered this project into the PGI art show. It won 1st place!

Started out with 2 embroidery hoops a 12 inch and 8 inch. Placed 3 boxes of crayons around the edge with glue. The fireworks and letters were cut on the cricut using DS. Stars are a stamp in up punch. Was a fun and exciting project to do.

Hydrangea

Since I haven't created any crafts in a while thought I would share my favorite plant. It is an ever bloom hydrangea. For 3 years now I have added aluminum sulfate around half of the plant. Each year I sprinkle around the base of the plant in a different areas. This has caused my plant to be multi-colored. Some of the buds actual have pink, purple and blue on one head. I hope this inspires your green thumb!

Bird punch card

My brother's daughter was in a cello recital a few weeks ago. I made her a card to congratulate her on a job well done.

The flower is made with the bird punch by stamp in up. Punch out 7 birds and assemble to your liking. The inside petals are the wing from the same punch. I used a 1" circle punch for the center. The stem is also from the bird punch.

I really like how this turned out with the colors and glitter paper. Perfect for an 9 year old. Hope she liked it.

Very simple to put together and lots of fun.

Baby onsies

An other gift for my friend. In case you hadn't guessed she is having a girl. She asked if anyone had pyro related onsie's. Couldn't think of anyone who sold them. After a few days it dawned on me I can do that.

I purchased 5 twelve month onsies. Using DS and stand & salute to create a pyro theme. I purchased pink and purple glittered material. Ironed heat n bond to the back and began to cut.

The onsie with 2 firecrackers on the front has a cracker on the butt in back. Thought it was a nice and funny touch. I hope they will fit and I get to see photos someday.

Baby hangers

Many of you have seen these on the message boards. I decided it was my turn to take a spin at it. An associate is having a baby later this year. I wanted to give her something special. I hope she enjoys it.

Everything is made with DS. Numbers are storybook and baby things are new arrivals.

The hardest thing was cutting the paper around the do not disturb hangers I got from the Radisson hotel. Yep pays to have friends in high places. Did I mention they were free. I traced them and cut out by hand. Used my atg gun to adhere. Be sure to get close to the edge or things will not stick.

The rest is colored with copic markers and stamp in up water colors. Used regular glue to put them down. To finish it off I used a rose corner stamp for the corners. I am really happy how it turned out!

Mushrooms for the garden

I had a blast making these! Take a plastic bowl of your choice and glue it to a vase. This forms the mushroom.

Embellish with colored stones in various shapes and sizes. I used hot glue to adhere them. Seems to work well.
I used a piece of PVC pipe to help it stand in the garden. To measure insert PVC into the top through the vase and judge the rest. I am generous with the amount I push into the ground. They should sit on top of the ground with a little room for movement.

Convert gypsy to cut

With all the happenings with Gypsy I thought I would share how to convert these files into what you need. Thanks to Giselle Varela for sharing! You can now download gyspy files and use them if you do not own a Gypsy. There is a lot of great talented people out there.

.gypsy to .cut Steps for Converting Files: *.gypsy to *.cut
1) Open the *.gypsy file using a licensed copy of CDS
2) Click File
3) Click Save as
4) Change the file type to *.cut
5) Change the file name
6) Click Save *.cut to *.gypsy

File Conversion Notes: 1) Any *.cut file that is converted to a *.gypsy file that contains images that have been slanted/skewed will not cut properly on the Gypsy. 2) Any *.gypsy file that has multiple layers that is transferred to a PC and opened in CSD will have all the layers combined into a single layer.

Gypsy to Gypsy
File Transfer Steps (PC):
1) Turn on your Gypsy
2) Plug it into your PC
3) Launch Gypsy Sync
4) After checking for updates you will see two windows and two button
5) In the folder window, click on the “+” symbol next to the word Gypsy
6) Click on Designs – this will display all the designs that are currently on your Gypsy in the file window on the right
7) To transfer these files to your PC a.Select a file(s) and click the button at the bottom of the screen that says “Save Selected File(s) to PC”
8) To transfer files to your Gypsy a.Click the button that says “Upload File(s) to Gypsy” File

Transfer Steps (MAC):
1) Turn on your Gypsy
2) Plug it into your PC
3) Launch Gypsy Sync
4) After checking for updates you will see a file list window
5) To transfer these files to your MAC a. Select a file(s) and drag them to the desktop 6) To transfer files to your Gypsy a. Select the file(s) on your MAC and drag them to the file list window

File Transfer notes: 1) When transferring files to and from the Gypsy the names of the files should only contain the following characters A-Z 0-9 . , - _ . You should also avoid file names that are over 64 characters in length.
2) The Gypsy can be on any screen when transferring files but it is recommended that you are on the Welcome screen when transferring files to avoid problems.

Ultimate cake

What's a birthday with a great cake. How about this. Chocolate chip cookie covered with a peanut butter frosting, add a layer of chocolate cake and finish it off with chocolate butter cream frosting! Sprinkle a few Reese's on top.

Sucker bouquet

My brother turned 40 today. He keeps telling everyone he's 29 but we all know better. I decided to make his birthday a little more fun.

This is a sucker bouquet. Very easy to make! I used a crystal light container from walmart for the base. I added a glass jar of cherries inside the container to weight it down. Next use a 6 inch Styrofoam ball covered in tissue paper for the center. Tissue paper can be colored or plain. I used a glittered white piece. I cut the words on my cricut using DS and Don Juan. Layered the happy birthday sentiment and the word sucks. Stickles on the stars for a bit of bling. While that dries cove the container with a piece of paper cut to fit.

Once the words are cut hot glue skewers to the back. Use 2 skewers for the big words and 1 for the numbers. Orientate the skewers to fit the ball. I placed Happy Birthday towards the bottom, then stuck in the Sucks and finally 40 on top.

Now comes the fun part. You need 2 bags of blow pops or similar type of suckers and a 5 lb bag of dum dums. Start pushing them in to cover all the bare spots.

Toilet Cake

Made this cake for my friend and neighbor. He is the type of guy who is there to help you in any way possible. Always mowing the lawns, snow plowing, snow blowing, and what ever else needs to be done without being asked. A good shit!

This took a bit of planning and several hours to construct. Take a heavy piece of cardboard for the base and cover it with wax paper. You will need to fold one end up about 6-8 inches and cut a slit in for the cover. The cover is from a 12 inch pizza. Fold one end of the circle about 2-3 inches. Slide the pizza disc into the hole on the cardboard and secure. I placed 2 pieces of ribbon on the edges to ensure it so it wouldn't fall on top of the cupcakes.

Make the cupcakes according to the box. Let completely cool before frosting! Frost them as normal and let set for 2-3 hours. This allows the frosting to become stiff so when you add the final layer the frosting will not fall off later.

Mix a package of blue berry jello according to the box. Make sure to use very hot water so the jello will come out clear. Pour half the jello in a cake pan. Let set in the fridge for 20 mins. Cut up 2 mini Baby Ruth candy bars into small pieces. Place the pieces in the center of the jello to look like some one pooped. Add remaining jello and refrigerate over night.

To assemble: place the jello mold in the center and add 12 cupcakes around it. Using the remaining frosting add a layer to form a solid toilet seat. It's ok it some falls off or in between the cupcakes. For the saying use micro soft word to generate.

Peep wreath

Why didn't I think of this? My peeps on the message boards were slacking on this one as well. Saw this idea on Fox 11. So simple even for the beginner crafter.

You need an 18 inch wreath from M's. Peeps sold in twin boxes (10 peeps in a package) from Walmart you need 3 yellow, 2 pink, 2 green and 2 blue. Of course if you want more of one color then change the order above. I happen to like yellow as a nice spring color. Lots of toothpicks.

Open the wreath outside and shake off loose hay pieces. Will help to avoid a mess inside! Open your peeps the night before you are ready to construct. This makes them more sturdy and pliable. Push in a toothpick where you would like to start about half way. Press a peep on top. You may have to adjust the toothpick if the peep is thin. You will get the hang of it rather fast. I placed 1 peep at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. Then filled in from there. I hope this inspires you to be crafty!

Bunny basket

I created this box and bunny using george and ds. It was harder than I thought to make the basket. But after a few test cuts I did it!

I got the bunny from a class. Since I don't own the punches needed for the bunny I again used george and ds.

The grass is paper! Found it at Walgreens this year for under a buck. I like the look of it better than the typical plastic stuff.

Baby Frame

A friends mom asked me to put words on a frame for her. Using DS and my cricut I created the words using storybook. It says: We loved you even before we knew you.

I added a heart with a ribbon to finish it off.

Flowers for friends

A great little gift for my neighbors! These were made with fabric rose petals. I hot glued the petals together in groups of 4 to form a flower. Then hot glued a chocolate heart in the center.

The vase contains m & m's. Plain, peanut and peanut butter were in the mix. You need choices sometimes!

Sterling roses

My boyfriend of 5 years surprised me with sterling roses on Saturday. Yes it was the day before the made up holiday (Valentine's Day). I don't see a need for this holiday.

Sterling's are my favorite and only rose I like to get once in a while. For the most part I don't like getting flowers because they die in less than a week. I have tried the little packets the floral shop gives you for the water and sprite instead of water. All tho the sprite works for red, pink, yellow and white roses.
I would prefer getting a perennial plant instead. That way I can enjoy it every year in my garden.

Pants with candy

While searching on the message boards for any info on new products going to be released this year. Not like I need anything new! I stumbled on this idea by JudiHarrington . This a pair of pants cut from pddu and 2 smarty sticks of candy inserted for legs. I requested the cut file but have not received it as of today. Not sure what happened but I couldn't wait any longer.

Last night I decided to have a go at this. Since ds is easy to adjust sizes I thought I can do this. Think positive! After many samples I finally got it to where I like it. All the while singing in my head...just keep swimming..... The pants are cut 2.5 inches across by 2.75 inches long. I had to adjust the legs to fit the candy sticks. I stretched each leg to 1.5 inches wide. I used the same pair of pants for the front and back, however the back I used the black out feature.

I then took a oval and a square to form the pockets. Each piece is about .75 inches wide by .75 inches long and welded together. Using a stampin up stamp for the detail on the pocket stamped in white ink. I inked the edges but you can't see it that well. Simple stitch marks all around with a ball point pen. Gem stones for the bling and ribbon as a belt.

Words were done in word. Using a template from an other project, I resized the circle to about 2.25 inches. At least that is my best guess. I printed a few before I got it right. I punched them out with a stampin up scallop punch.

I am very happy with how these turned out. I am going to do some different style pants next time.

Copy rights and legal stuff

There has been a lot buzz going on lately about copy rights. While I believe in the craft world everything is far game. It is called Scrap lifting. Guess I never saw the harm in it till a problem came up with a fellow blogger. Her hard work was being sold by an other crafter. Never gave the original artist credit. That crossed the line! It made me think I have many files and pictures that are my own. So I have now protected my blog page and all the files on it. I also installed a copygator. He will monitor my site and let me know if the key words have been copied and placed on an other site.

I don't mind if you use my files or pictures as long as you ask permission and they are for personal use. A simple email can eliminate a lot of headaches and heart breaks. Thanks for your time and I hope you take the steps to protect your hard work as well.

Here are the gifts I am giving my brother's kids for Valentine's Day. They are mini milk cartons with carrier. Using a ds file I got from the message board and the george cart. After a few alterations to the file to fit my needs, was easy to put together.
Inside the cartons are candies of course! 1 box has 3 suckers and the other box has 10 Reese's hearts and 10 Crunch hearts.

Tips for next time: use Velcro to seal the box, distribute the heavy candy evenly, and make the carrier box a bit shorter to see the cartons better.

Frosted glass snowman

I am so excited how this turned out! I took an 8 x 8 glass trivet from Walmart ($3.00 in the candle section). Cut out the snowman and child from a child's year cart. Using ds to adjust the size to fit the image to a full 8 x 8 square. I wedded the unwanted parts and applied a layer of painter tape to transfer the image to the mirror. Worked great!

Once the image was set I used rust-oleum frosted glass spray. According to directions on the can, spray 1 coat and let sit for 5 mins then apply an other if needed. I did use 2 coats. After 10 mins my image was dry.

Pull of the vinyl and your done. I hope I inspired you and would love to see your versions.

Hospital Cards

I made 132 Christmas cards for my local hospital. Theda Clark gives them to any/all patients in the hospital during Christmas. They will be delivered by hand or on the patients meal trays. It is nice when a patient can have a little holiday cheer during a bad time in life.

All cards are embossed using cuttlebug and sizzix. It is nothing fancy, just simple and elegant. Some I added colored stickles and a few stamped images. The inside is stamped with a Christmas greeting and signed Santa. Since I did not want to boast it was my family doing this, I used Santa. It doesn't mater who gave the cards only that they are given out. I hope this brightens the patients day and makes being in the hospital on Christmas a little bit easier.

Endless Calendar

What a great idea! To bad I didn't think of it. Given time I might have. Everything was designed in ds and cut on the cricut. I used george, lyrica, and paper doll carts. Using chip board 6 x 12 for the base and heavy construction paper for the days/month/numbers. Squares are 1.25 x 4, 1.5 x 4.25 and 1.75 x 5. I used my xyon machine for the numbers and words. I had trouble transferring the words, so I used painters tape. Worked like a charm just like transfer tape for vinyl. I made a doll for each holiday. At least tried to. If you note the calendar days show the holiday in that month. The ones without holidays I just picked a date. Hope you enjoy the calendar and it sparks your creativity.

Snow flakes

After wrapping my picture frames I thought my wall needed a bit more bling. Using the when it's cold outside cart, I cut a bunch of snowflakes. I set up ds with the various sized flakes and used contact paper. Blade set to 1 and regular ds settings. Once cut it was simple to apply to the wall. Now I need to make some for my mom. Sorry about the photo being dark. I have a cream colored wall and the snowflakes are white. I didn't use the flash on my camera because it washed out the flakes.

Glass block - nativity scene

Great and elegant way to decorate for the holidays. I found this design on one of my message boards. This is cut in gold vynl on my expression. I used ds and a blade setting of 2. Instead of transfer tape I used painters tape. Got the same results but much cheaper. I place the design on a piece of velum. Using glue dots I attached the velum to the glass block. I think it turned out very nice. Hope you enjoy.

Glitter ornaments

Very simple and quick way to make your own ornaments.
You need glass bulbs any size, pledge with furniture shine and fine glitter.

Snowman tile

Saw this on the cricut form and wanted to make it. Only I did not have those cartridges.....ugh! I used tear drop instead and letters are welded and 1 inch. Snowman is 3 inches from snow friends. Snow flakes are accent essentials various size from 1 to 3 inches.

I used my xyon machine for the letters, flakes and snowman. I used stickles on the snowflakes to make them pop a bit. Also used stickles for the snowman's buttons.

Christmas Care

Every year we participate in Christmas Care. It is a great way to give back this time of year. You fill a shoe box with needed items and wrap it. Then drop it off to a designated location. From there the boxes are sorted out and given to local emergency rooms or shelters. We choose an adult man and women this year. What do you do for a baby shower? Make a diaper cake of course. Best way to combine cooking and crafts. Ok so there is no cooking but it sounds good. Ingredients: 1 box pampers size 1 (sensitive style), 1 package cloth diapers, 4 packages wash clothes (total 8), 1 4oz bottle, 1 8 oz bottle, 1 large bottle J & J body wash, ribbon, 100 hair ties (plastic type to wrap the diapers with), a few rubber bands, 4 pacifiers and bling. Directions are bite harder to explain. If you want to do one just put in diaper cake in a search engine and you will come up with many options. Have fun and I would love to see yours.

Wedding gift box

I thought I posted this already but can't find it. Sorry it is a duplicate! My friends asked me if I could make them a gift card box. After a quick min thought I said yes. I came up with an idea ran it by the bride and to our surprise this is how the cake will look as well. To funny. Was very tedious to make but well worth it. I took 4 different sided boxes from Hobby Lobby and wrapped them in decorative paper. Added bling with ribbon and 2 accent boxes. 1 box was for show and the other we put a photo of them in it(see bottom right box). The hardest thing was cutting the hole for the cards. I actually put 2 slots in just in case we filled the bottom one. I heard a few comments at the wedding about how cute it was and the colors went well.

Honeydew job jar

An organized way to get my sweetie to do some of his honeydew list. This way he can just pick something. Lets hope he doesn't cheat by looking ahead.
Details: Tools are stamps I got from a garage sale. Colored and cut out. Some have brads as extra touch. I lined the inside with white card stock that was run through a printer. The ribbon is from Walmart. Not much more to say than that! Hope you enjoy and get ideas for your sweetie.

ScrapFest 2009

My mom and I went to ScrapFest 2009 at the Mall of America in MN. Imagine 3000 of your closest scrapbook friends under one roof! It was a lot of fun. There are classes you can take as well as 30 make-n-takes. We did not sign up for any classes as they were an additional fee and full within 20 mins of opening. We managed to make 12 of the make-n-takes. The lines near the center of the mall were really bad. We took someone's tip and started on the outer edges. I don't think we stood in line more than 20 mins for most. 1 booth we stood for 45 mins but we were able to bounce between 2 lines and get 2 additional cards made. I am not sure I would go back again. The booths were neat but the projects were nothing fancy or should I say nothing I haven't seen before. The weirdest thing was standing on the first floor and feeling it shake under you as people walk by.

The rest of family attended and had a blast. Chris couldn't believe they had no sporting goods or bike store in the mall. "How many clothes stores does one person need?" per Chris. Too funny! We did go through the aquarium before we left. Wow that was amazing!

Mom and I made 100 cards for a group on the circut forum. I think it was called army card cricut fairy or something like that. Crafters make cards and send them to one person in their state. Those cards are sent to soldiers from that state. The soldiers use the blank cards to send home for holidays, birthdays or what ever. Feels good to give!

Halloween Decoration

I decided to try my hand at an other type of centerpieces. Since my favorite holiday is Halloween it made sense to
make something for Halloween. I can't take credit for coming up with this all on my own. I had seen something similar using a flower pot as the base. I figured it would look better with a hay bale instead. I also added a few more grave stones and attached the ghosts permanently.

Everything was cut using the expression and design studio. Was a lot of fun to make and create this. With help from my mom we added a lot of glitter and gel pen details.

Fall, Christmas and winter flower pots

My newest addition to my flowers pots. The first one is in fall colors with a flower petal shape. Second is a Christmas theme. Flower petals are shaped like poinsettias. The third is winter/snow colors. With snow flake shaped petals and poinsettias shaped. The third one is a bit more difficult to cut with all the details.
